A FIRM has been fined Pounds 40,000 after a cleaner was hurt in a fall at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station.
Kieron Walker, 18, broke his leg and 11 ribs after falling down a 6.5m (21ft) shaft.
Yesterday Carillion (AMBS) Ltd, of Glasgow, was fined Pounds 40,000 and ordered to pay Pounds 8,300 costs by Nottingham magistrates after earlier pleading guilty to breaching regulations for working at height. It also admitted failing to ensure work was properly planned and supervised and failing to take measures to prevent a fall, in relation to the accident. in October 2007. Mr Walker was asked to clean ducts supplying air to the boilers. He was provided with a harness and given instructions, but not provided with training on how to use it.

Metal companies are, well, roaring.
They have China to thank first up, and then domestic consumption.
On Tuesday, Tata Steel said its production of saleable steel, hot metal and crude steel was the best ever in December.
Saleable steel production alone rose 77.4% to 592,487 tonne.
To top it, sales are up 72.8% year on year to 636,000 crore in the month for India’s largest steel maker.
Rival JSW Steel said its production was up 88% in the third quarter to 14.69 lakh tonne of crude steel.
The company said it notched up its highest-ever quarterly production for rolled flat and rolled long products with the former clocking growth of 51% and latter close to 200%.
And gigantic Chinese appetite for iron ore means Indian exports rose 24.5% in November.
Steel re-rollers, too, skimmed the trend.

The old adage ?aging gracefully? is relative. What is graceful for some is not for others. I have found that it is very different for men and women. What happens when we age, besides the obvious laugh lines, or as I prefer calling them ?wisdom lines??
Aging for women brings on confidence, self assurance, energy, drive, knowledge about who they are and a higher sex drive. (More women over 40 open up their own business, change careers and/or go back to work)
Aging for men, brings on loss of sex drive, they are content in their jobs, what they?ve attained, so this allows them to feel the need to slow down, their desire to relax is greater which brings on an overall feeling of ?contentment? and they don?t feel like trying new things?..
